Chemical Applications Developer

Position Overview
This role involves working in a laboratory environment and includes tasks such as formulation preparation, material characterizations, coating application, and comparative benchmarking. We are seeking an Application Development Chemist who can develop a deep understanding of our product portfolio, particularly in terms of performance, capabilities, and applications in coatings. In this position, you will also provide technical support to customers alongside the Sales & Marketing team.

Responsibilities
- Evaluate newly developed resin systems and provide valuable insights and direction to the R&D team.
- Play a significant role in project management and new product development, contributing to key business elements for successful commercialization.
- Develop a comprehensive knowledge of our product portfolio, including technology, typical use, market trends, and value propositions.
- Assist in the development and organization of technical and environmental data, such as technical data sheets, brochures, and launch packages.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the Sales and Marketing teams.
- Represent the organization in relevant forums and conferences within your area of application expertise.
Required Skills and Experience
- 10-15 years of experience in formulation and application, including product development, formulation, and structure-property relationships. Experience with air dry and bake systems requiring high durability and exterior properties is preferred. Experience in a production or manufacturing environment is a plus.
- Experience working in a coatings and/or paint laboratory, including tasks such as milling pigments, formulation preparation, rheometers, material characterizations, coating application equipment, and feasibility demonstrations.
- Desired experience with solvent borne materials.
- Preference for experience with polymers.
- Automotive coatings experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of laboratory and equipment safety, including familiarity with proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocols.
- Proficient in experimental planning and data analysis, as well as documenting and reporting in English.
- Availability for domestic travel, expected to be 10-15% of the time.
Qualifications
- Master's or bachelor's degree in a scientific field, preferably chemistry (with a focus on polymer chemistry, if possible).
