We are seeking a veterinarian with a focus on non-human primates (NHP) to provide critical veterinary care at a CDC quarantine facility. As a Veterinarian Researcher/Industry Specialist, you will play a vital role in the health, care, and management of NHPs used for research and breeding. This position requires strong clinical and surgical veterinary skills, exceptional organizational abilities, and an interest in working in a fast-paced environment.

In this role, you will ensure optimal veterinary health care for our NHPs and support our breeding programs. You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with federal regulations from the USDA, DEA, NIH, and AAALAC. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining the health of our breeding colonies.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventative medicine procedures such as dental care, quarantine protocols, and review of health records
  • Develop and implement preventative medicine plans based on clinical outcomes
  • Participate in animal health maintenance, including surveillance, testing, routine exams, and bio-sample analysis
  • Provide care for sick or injured animals, including follow-up treatment
  • Perform radiology, ultrasound, and surgical procedures
  • Provide care for pregnant and neonatal NHPs
  • Determine anesthetic and analgesic agents for procedures
  • Assist surgical support staff and provide pre- and post-operative care
  • Maintain compliance with all USDA, PHS, AAALAC regulations and policies
  • Supervise veterinary clinical staff members as needed

Requirements:

  • DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school with at least 1 year of Laboratory Animal Medicine experience
  • USDA accreditation within 6 months of employment
  • Ability to obtain DEA registration
  • Experience with veterinary care of various animals, specifically NHPs
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Preferred experience conducting research in a regulated environment
  • Familiarity with regulations governing animal use in teaching and research

Desired Experience:

  • Clinical proficiency with nonhuman primates and specialized technical skills
  • Board Certification in Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM)
  • Experience providing hands-on technical training
  • Supervisory experience
