Automation Engineer
General Description
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Control Systems Engineer based in Alpharetta, GA to be responsible for various tasks including programming, system configuration, system documentation, factory acceptance testing, and field start-up and commissioning activities.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Engineering with at least 5 years of applicable work experience, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
· Extensive experience and expertise in programming with a solid understanding of:
a. PLCs (Allen-Bradley preferred)
b. HMIs (Inductive Automation Ignition, AVEVA/Wonderware System Platform, Rockwell FactoryTalk View, GE iFIX preferred)
c. DCS (DeltaV)
d. Other (Omni Flow Computer, ROC, Presets)
· In-depth knowledge of Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and OPC communications protocols
· Strong understanding of P&ID’s, control panel wiring drawings, and field wiring diagrams
· Preferred skills:
a. Knowledge of Electrical Protection Relays (Multilin, SEL)
b. Knowledge of Historian systems
c. Knowledge of external notification systems (text, email, mobile app, etc.)
d. Familiarity with DeviceNet and/or Profibus communications protocols
Responsibilities
· Developing DCS/PLC/HMI programming
· Participating in the development of logic diagrams, cause & effect matrices, and functional narratives
· Aiding in the development and/or review of control panel design packages, field wiring diagrams, conduit & cable schedules, and associated E&I package deliverables
· Attending field verification and user requirements gathering walkdowns
· Executing factory acceptance testing
· Conducting field start-up and commissioning, including support for troubleshooting activities
· Contributing to and participating in client training
· Providing after hours support for internal/external clients as required
· Working closely with Senior Engineering Leads and Project Managers to ensure delivery quality and adherence to budget and communicating progress, issues, and change order needs
· Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, including air travel
Physical Requirements
· Ability to sit in an office space for a standard workday (8-10 hours, with breaks as needed)
· Ability to travel by car to remote locations for up to 5 hours
· Ability to travel by plane to locations with flight times up to 5 hours
· Ability to kneel or bend to investigate and document control panels and wiring
· Ability to stand and walk around pipeline, terminal, and plant locations for up to 10-12 hours per day, including climbing stairs/ladders and crossing dike walls when necessary
· Ability to work outdoors in challenging climates while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment
