Job Title: Controls & Automation Engineer
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Salary: $80-90K + Bonus
Job Summary of the Controls & Automation Engineer: The Controls & Automation Application Engineering role will provide detailed sales and system application support for the Controls and Automation Product Platform and Engineering team. The individual in this role will guide and direct the Sales team and internal Engineering team members in product design to meet customer needs. Responsibilities include designing customized solutions, preparing design proposals, verifying solutions, and creating drafts and drawings.
Qualifications of the Controls & Automation Engineer:
- Associate degree (A.S.) in Mechanical Design, Electrical Design, or Engineering Technology.
- 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with PLC programming is required, preferably Allen Bradley or Siemens.
- Experience with AutoCAD 2018 or newer, SolidWorks, and EPLAN are desirable.
- Sound understanding of industrial networking, mobile electrification, and industrial control systems is required.
- Ability to communicate and effectively document conversations with Sales and/or Customers concerning applications and technical requirements.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Office365 applications is a must.
- Working knowledge of SAP would be beneficial.
Responsibilities of the Controls & Automation Engineer:
- Prepare component, product, layout, and detailed drawings and schematics using SolidWorks, EPLAN, and AutoCAD/DraftSight.
- Review application challenges with Engineering support teams and find solutions to meet customer requirements.
- Process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for the product line(s).
- Conduct design review meetings with sales, manufacturing, and quality assurance personnel for special-engineered applications.
- Initiate and write Test Requests, analyze results, and take appropriate action. Occasionally perform tests.
- Provide engineering support to the manufacturing shop floor as required.
- Perform on-site inspections and support commissioning activities.
- Communicate directly with Customers and Sales staff to guide their decision-making process and find solutions to meet their requirements.
- Review Industrial Networking and Automation system designs to specify products that provide control, energy, and data transmission solutions.
- Help external and internal customers with PLC-related questions and projects.
- Locate design and application files related to the required design(s) and make design modifications as appropriate.
- Initiate and write Test Requests, analyze results, and take appropriate action. Occasionally perform tests.
- Over time, develop an expert-level understanding of assigned products.
- Provide engineering support to the manufacturing shop floor as required.
- Correct any errors/omissions in an expeditious manner and look for ways to reduce/eliminate recurring errors.
- Support corrective action investigation, analysis, and permanent corrective action implementation.
- Perform on-site inspections and support commissioning activities.
- Understand and interpret regulatory codes such as UL, NEC, and NFPA, as well as others as needed.
- Perform any other duties as required by the customer and assigned by management.
