Chief Procurement Officer

Location: Boston, MA

SUMMARY

The position of Chief Procurement Officer is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for acquiring necessary ingredients, packaging, and indirect goods and services to support the business. This role is in charge of maintaining relationships with suppliers, analyzing market trends and pricing to ensure competitive rates, and upholding high quality and service standards.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Implement and execute forward-looking procurement strategies to ensure long-term supply and cost stability
  • Advise senior leadership on procurement, quality, and R&D risks and propose alternative solutions
  • Create a balanced scorecard that measures cost, quality, service, and people-related metrics
  • Establish a plan to reduce costs and increase productivity year-over-year to meet business objectives
  • Support new product launches and innovation
  • Establish professional relationships with senior leadership to drive the vision of direct materials and indirect procurement
  • Regularly review and analyze monthly purchase price variance and indirect procurement cost plan
  • Take a hands-on approach to address business needs as necessary
  • Develop the procurement team through coaching, on-the-job training, formal training, and career development planning
  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure a safe work environment

QUALIFICATIONS

To successfully fulfill this role, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is required, and experience in contract negotiations is preferred.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; preferred MBA

Minimum of 10 years of prior experience

  • Experience in a food or beverage company
  • Procurement experience in agricultural commodities, packaging, and indirect procurement
  • Ability to drive process improvement and implement system initiatives for operating efficiencies
  • Experience in utilizing strategic sourcing methodologies to develop category strategies, source, negotiate, and manage suppliers
  • Global sourcing experience preferred
  • Able to work independently and lead the growth of the procurement team
  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills with attention to detail
