Factory director

Location: Dollard-Des-Ormeaux, QC

The position of Factory Director involves managing all operations of the factory to provide products that adhere to established standards and values.

You will be responsible for incorporating all aspects of SQLCM* into your work.

*SQLCM = Safety/Quality/Delivery/Cost/Morale

Specific Responsibilities

  • Manage Production, Maintenance, and Warehouse departments to meet customer demands based on available staff and production schedules.
  • Oversee health, safety, and quality assurance to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and management of systems, including audits and compliance measures.
  • Improve factory performance and consistency through employee development, preventive maintenance, process improvement, and investment projects.
  • Handle budgeting activities and cost management.
  • Inspire, guide, and drive plant employees to reach their full potential in order to maintain an engaged workforce.
  • Manage all human resources matters, including hiring, training, coaching, performance management, communication, and recognition.
  • Support ongoing projects and propose new capital projects.
  • Efficiently plan production schedules based on orders, staff availability, and timelines.
  • Ensure production goals regarding costs, deadlines, and quality are achieved.
  • Supervise work methods, productivity goals, and the efficient utilization of resources.
  • Solve work-related issues and recommend changes to improve productivity in the factory.
  • Implement and evaluate new production equipment and processes.
  • Establish continuous improvement methods.
  • Enforce health and safety rules in the workplace.
  • Create and maintain a highly motivating work environment.
  • Perform any additional responsibilities necessary to fulfill the role of Factory Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 10-15 years of experience as a Factory Director or with substantial operational responsibilities.
  • Experience in a federally inspected processed food manufacturing facility with HACCP recognition is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in continuous improvement principles and problem-solving methodologies (PDCA, 5 Whys, SMED, Kaizen, Lean, Pareto). Must have implemented some of these methods.
  • Effective leadership and strong management skills.
  • Excellent coaching, development, and training abilities for production staff.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a progressive and dynamic environment.
  • A record of successfully managing change and increasing productivity.
  • Bilingual in English and French.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Outlook. Knowledge of production management software is highly beneficial.
  • Experience with SAP is a plus.
  • Availability for production support including weekends and evenings.
