Power Plant Safety Manager
As the Power Plant Safety Manager in Lakewood, NJ, your role will involve ensuring the implementation of the Company's policies and procedures for environmental, health, and safety (EHS) practices. You will be responsible for leading personnel and maintaining accurate data and documents in the EHS management systems. Programs that you will oversee include, but are not limited to:
- Title V Air Permit
- National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Standards
- EPA Storm Water Management
- Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures Plan
- Facility Response Plan / Integrated Contingency Plan
- All applicable OSHA and consensus standards, including NFPA 70E, General Industry (29 CFR 1910, including Process Safety Management), Construction (29 CFR 1926), and Recordkeeping (29 CFR 1904)
- OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)
- EPA Hazardous Waste Regulations
- EPA Risk Management Program
- Part 75 and Part 60 CEMS
In this position, you will be responsible for producing, reviewing, and submitting required regulatory reports for the site with applicable oversight. You will also act as the site's coordinator with regulatory agencies, fostering a positive and collaborative relationship. Additionally, you will manage the site's Continuous Emissions Monitor and Data Acquisition and Handling Systems, serving as the lead interface to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). Your tasks will include generating required reports with oversight, ensuring data accuracy, working with the OEM to make corrections as necessary, and ensuring timely submittal of required reports.
Your role will also involve assisting in establishing site goals and objectives, implementing policies, programs, and procedures to ensure consistent application of the Company's EHS compliance mission. Oversight of the NERC/CIP program will be part of your responsibilities. You will provide "hands-on" assistance to operating personnel to ensure EHS compliance and support the site in identifying physical and process improvements that can reduce compliance risks while minimizing operating expenses. Additionally, you will participate in incident and near-miss event investigations using root cause analysis methodology, contributing to corrective action development, implementation, and tracking. Your involvement in site regulatory and internal audits may also be required.
To excel in this role, you should constantly stay informed about new and changing regulatory requirements related to EHS compliance at the site. The following qualifications are required:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, engineering, or related field
- Specialized regulatory knowledge and experience with Clean Air Act programs, as well as general regulatory knowledge in other disciplines (e.g., CWA, EPCRA, CERCLA, RCRA, RMP)
- Knowledge and experience with Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems and related quality assurance activities are highly beneficial
- Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels within the plant and corporate organizations
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and issues simultaneously, performing at a high level in a fast-paced and frequently changing environment
- Developed leadership skills, focusing on results-driven thinking and planning
- Proven ability to build consensus with internal and external parties
