Safety and Health Manager
Summary:
As the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive environmental, safety, and health programs at our facility in Atlanta, GA. Your role is vital in ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards, both internal and external, while promoting sound business practices. Building and maintaining relationships with employees at all levels of the organization is key, as well as leading change across all departments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Establish strategic safety programs, implement critical programs, and set performance objectives
• Develop and maintain safety standards and procedures to minimize risk
• Work with Corporate Safety Manager to implement safety policies
• Assist with accident investigations and reporting
• Maintain knowledge of EHS regulations and provide expertise for assessments and projects
• Develop and administer EHS Management Systems
• Facilitate compliance and perform audits and inspections
• Serve as liaison with external regulatory agencies and ensure accurate reporting
• Conduct inspections and audits to enforce safety policies
Compliance and Reporting
• Develop, issue, and maintain safety standards and procedures
• Work with Corporate Safety Manager to implement safety policies and ensure compliance
• Assist with accident investigations and reporting, and provide recommendations for corrective measures
• Maintain accurate environmental and injury/illness records
• Stay updated on EHS regulations and laws
• Develop and administer EHS Management Systems
• Facilitate compliance with standards and guidelines through audits, inspections, and documentation
• Act as liaison with regulatory agencies and ensure accurate reporting
Safety Training
• Proactively prevent accidents through employee training
• Maintain training records and documentation
• Coordinate and conduct safety training
Contractor and Vendor Compliance
• Coordinate and review vendor safety training
• Ensure temp agencies comply with safety programs
• Manage First Aid supplies and Boot trucks
Program Oversight
• Lead Plant Safety Committee and cultural project efforts
• Influence and direct a culture change
• Oversee emergency response, security, and fire protection programs
• Administer respiratory protection and hearing conservation programs
• Promote safety culture at all levels of the organization
Other Duties as Assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Detailed knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable safety standards
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Ability to develop and implement environmental and safety policies
- Knowledge of manufacturing practices, preferably in the food industry
- Flexible and able to adjust work hours as needed
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
- Strong team player
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational/Industrial Safety or related field
- Certification in an EHS related discipline is a plus
- Minimum of 5 years of EHS program management experience in a manufacturing environment
- Preferred experience in PSM facility with anhydrous ammonia
- Preferred experience in waste water with anaerobic treatment process
- Preference for food, food-related, or consumer package goods experience
