Health and Safety Specialist

Job Summary:
We are seeking a Health and Safety Specialist with PSM experience to join our team in Mobile, AL. As the Safety & Environmental Specialist, you will be responsible for implementing, managing, and monitoring safety and environmental programs, policies, and procedures. You will ensure that our organization complies with all relevant regulations, such as OSHA, NFPA, DOT, ADEM, and EPA. Additionally, you will conduct inspections to identify unsafe conditions and implement necessary safeguards. Your role will also involve collecting and reporting data on safety and environmental incidents, as well as assisting in corrective actions as needed.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Participate in the development and implementation of safety programs, including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, fire protection, and PSM.
- Participate in the development and implementation of site Environmental Programs, such as ISO14001, and ensure compliance.
- Advise employees on safety protocols and procedures to ensure their safety and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct hazard analyses and recommend mitigation procedures.
- Conduct routine and follow-up inspections for environmental, health, safety, and hazards within the plant.
- Respond to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, fire and smoke incidents, or unknown hazards.
- Collect and analyze accident and incident reports, identifying trends and making recommendations for improvement.
- Provide safety training to all employees and contractors.
- Participate in the Emergency Response Team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Experience and proficiency in performing safety inspections and ensuring compliance with OSHA, ADEM, EPA, and other standards.
- Ability to gather and analyze data, compile information, and prepare reports.
- Ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols.
- Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations.
- Strong analytical skills to investigate and draw conclusions based on information.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and follow through to completion.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and occasionally stressful environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Ability to develop training materials and present to a group.
- Understanding of Process Safety Management or the ability to conduct Process Safety Analysis.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of related experience, or a combination of education and work experience.
- Prior experience in PSM regulated facilities and conducting PHAs is required.
- Experience in an Emergency Response Team (EMT, Fire Brigade, HazMat, Rope Rescue) is desired.
