ELECTRICAL POWER ENGINEER – Protection & Control
General Description
Our company is a well-known electrical power and control systems engineering firm and is currently seeking a qualified Electrical Power Engineer specializing in protection and control in Alpharetta, GA. The successful candidate will contribute to our expanding electrical power services.
Key Experience & Skills
- 4-8 years' experience with programming and configuring SEL RTACs, including the development of HMI interfaces, logic, and data concentrator functionality.
- Experience in integrating electrical SCADA systems with knowledge of OSI AspenTech or similar platforms for real-time monitoring and control.
- Experience with electrical power relay settings generation and implementation – preferably GE Multilin and SEL.
- In-depth knowledge of communication protocols such as DNP3, MMS, and GOOSE, and familiarity with the IEC 61850 family of standards.
- Experience in the development of electrical construction packages, including Single Line Diagrams, Three Line Diagrams, Schematics/Elementary Diagrams, Interconnection Diagrams, and Logic Diagrams.
- Knowledgeable of the requirements detailed in the National Electrical Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), and IEEE 3000 Series (formerly known as color books) - preferred.
- Experience with power system modeling tools – ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower - preferred.
- Adept at using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Highly effective in written and verbal communications.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam Completion.
Responsibilities
- Develop settings files for SEL protection relays and other similar devices.
- Develop settings files for SEL RTACs, including data concentration, HMI, and logic.
- Integrate electrical SCADA information with OSI AspenTech or similar platforms.
- Perform onsite programming, field testing, and commissioning of electrical protection, control, and SCADA systems.
- Develop comprehensive electrical construction packages for the installation of protection, control, and SCADA systems.
- Maintain detailed documentation of relay settings, RTAC configurations, and system integration processes.
- Provide after-hours support for internal/external clients as required.
- Work with Project Manager(s) to ensure the overall quality of commercial deliverables, budget maintenance, etc., and keep them informed of technical progress, issues, and change orders.
- Assist Project Manager(s) in developing cost estimates and proposals for new project opportunities, providing technical expertise and guidance in applying cost to labor, expense, and procurement items.
- Travel approximately 40% with willingness to travel by air.
