Power Systems Engineer – Protection & Control
Location: Houston, TX | Travel: ~40% (including air travel)

Be a part of a nationally recognized firm specializing in electrical power and control systems engineering, with a focus on expanding protection and control services. We are seeking a highly skilled Power Systems Engineer to join our team in Houston, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects involving advanced SCADA integrations, relay programming, and field commissioning for critical electrical infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities

  • Customize and program SEL protection relays and RTACs, encompassing data concentrator functionality, logic, and HMI development.

  • Integrate electrical SCADA systems using platforms like OSI AspenTech or equivalent.

  • Create relay settings for GE Multilin and SEL relays.

  • Conduct field testing, on-site commissioning, and diagnostics of electrical protection and SCADA systems.

  • Develop comprehensive electrical construction packages, including:

    • Single-Line & Three-Line Diagrams

    • Schematics / Elementary Diagrams

    • Interconnection & Logic Diagrams

  • Maintain accurate documentation for all protection, control, and SCADA configurations.

  • Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure project deliverables meet technical standards and budget objectives.

  • Provide technical support after hours when necessary.

  • Assist in creating technical proposals and cost estimates for new project bids.


Required Skills & Experience

  • 4–8 years of practical experience in engineering related to protection & control systems.

  • Proficiency in SEL RTAC programming and SCADA system integration.

  • Thorough understanding of communication protocols: DNP3, MMS, GOOSE, and IEC 61850.

  • Strong knowledge of relay settings, SCADA architecture, and HMI development.

  • Familiarity with NEC, NESC, and IEEE 3000 series standards.

  • Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower for modeling power systems.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel.

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.


Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering required.

  • Completion of the FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) exam.
