Product Development Engineer (Research and Development)

Location: Indianapolis, IN

As the Product Development Engineer, your role will involve managing a team of Product Engineers, including interns and co-ops. Your responsibilities will include executing and delivering R&D projects, new product development initiatives, product changes, and product testing. You will be responsible for managing processes and procedures, resolving issues efficiently, and reviewing engineering outputs such as designs, specifications, and DHF documentation. Additionally, you will play a key role in securing patents for new initiatives and ensuring freedom to operate. Your main focus will be on improving product design, increasing speed to market, and reducing product failure risk.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or a related STEM field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience managing R&D/engineering team activities.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving tools such as 5-Why and Fish Bone.
  • Background in Six Sigma with experience in Lean manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with cGMP and ISO 14971 methods.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Proficient in report writing and business correspondence.
  • Effective communication skills to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Strong mathematical abilities including probability, statistical inference, and geometry. Proficiency in applying mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Experience with project management software, Microsoft Office, Autodesk Inventor, and 3D Printing.
  • Excellent people, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Experience in applying statistical process controls.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well cross-functionally with leadership and manage teams.
  • Potential for 10% travel.
