Engineering Team Lead
Location: Spring Grove, IL
Position Summary:
The Engineering Team Lead is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the equipment design Engineering Team in Spring Grove, IL. This role focuses on meeting company objectives, including the design of new equipment, improvement of existing equipment, innovation of manufacturing processes, project management, and providing backup support and troubleshooting for the Maintenance teams.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise, lead, mentor, and develop the technical and soft skills of engineers within the department.
- Lead the equipment design process, determining form, fit, function, and specifications of all equipment design and components to meet manufacturing requirements.
- Direct research and development for new processes and equipment, making executive recommendations based on function, budget, ROI, quality, and safety.
- Design and layout mechanical systems/components using SolidWorks part and assembly modeling.
- Ensure designs meet or exceed applicable codes, performing analysis and validation for safety.
- Select and review components for machinery, ensuring quality and functionality.
- Calculate operating loads of equipment and perform comprehensive analysis to ensure safety and reliability.
- Select appropriate materials for design components, specifying manufacturing process and mechanical properties.
- Review and detail component and assembly drawings for manufacturing, ensuring accuracy.
- Manage quoting and procurement of components, preparing necessary documents for manufacturing/assembly.
- Oversee production personnel in equipment usage and develop proper maintenance practices.
- Collaborate with Maintenance and Production teams on improvements to existing equipment.
- Stay updated on technology trends and analyze investments opportunities.
- Oversee startup of new and updated equipment, coordinating with contractors and internal staff.
- Provide troubleshooting support and technical training to Maintenance personnel.
Education, Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
- Master's Degree preferred.
- Professional Engineering license and/or 15 years of experience in a related field.
- Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (Structural linear FEA and CFD).
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for parts, assemblies, and drawings.
- Strong skills in MS Office.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Mechanical aptitude and creativity.
- Expertise in blueprint reading, tolerances, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent communication, organization, and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a history of leading and developing technical professionals.
- Negotiation and project management skills.
