Since its establishment in 1987, NHCO has expanded its services to address various needs within the community. From community-centered disaster relief to essential support such as food, transportation, and self-sufficiency programs, NHCO is committed to providing assistance and improving the lives of those facing crisis, hardship, and poverty.   • Services for Seniors: Various services to help older adults in the greater North Hills community live with dignity at home in a healthy and safe manner.
  • Sharing Projects: NHCO holds various collections throughout the year and distributes donated goods to those in need.
  • Ask The Attorney: Free, 30-minute legal consultations with volunteer attorneys for eligible low-income residents.
  • Education Assistance: A program that helps non-traditional adult students in need reach their education goals.
  • Employment Services: Assisting unemployed adults with career counseling, skills assessment, and overcoming barriers to employment.
  • Smart Investments for Women: Small financial grants available to help individuals facing personal crises.
  • Free Tax Preparation: Assistance for low-income families through the United Way’s Free Tax Prep program.
  • Transportation Assistance: Programs to help local individuals in need overcome transportation challenges.
  • Utilities and Emergencies: Assistance with utilities for qualifying families through various programs.
POSITION OVERVIEW
NHCO is seeking a resilient and visionary leader to serve as the Executive Director and steer the organization towards a sustainable future. This role requires a deep dedication to food equity and justice, along with a comprehensive understanding of food systems and their connections to promote well-being. The Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing a substantial budget exceeding $3 million, nurturing NHCO's initiatives and programs for long-term viability and expansion. Exceptional integrity and interpersonal skills are crucial for success in this role.
We are seeking an individual who has a strong grasp of the operational requirements of a growing, multi-location non-profit. The ideal candidate must also possess empathy and concern for the individuals and families served by NHCO. With an outward-facing focus, the Executive Director must excel in cultivating relationships and securing resources. They will be a strategic visionary, enhancing NHCO's visibility and prominence within the broader community.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The ideal candidate for the Executive Director position will have a successful track record in strategic planning, fundraising, organizational management, and program development within the non-profit sector. They should possess extensive experience in non-profit management and a strong understanding of financial principles. The Executive Director will assume overall responsibility for NHCO's staff, programs, budget, and fulfillment of its mission. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of poverty issues and/or experience in promoting food equity. Exceptional non-profit management skills, leadership abilities, relationship management expertise, and a proven track record in resource development are essential qualifications for this role.

  • Educational background that supports the needs of the position
  • Past success in collaborating with partners, including corporate and business leaders, philanthropic leaders, like-minded organizational partners, and a Board of Directors
  • A successful track record in fundraising from diverse sources
  • Knowledge of how marketing, communications, and public relations can further fundraising efforts, along with thought leadership experience in optimizing these tools
  • A transparent, encouraging, and collaborative working style
  • Experience and confidence in public speaking before diverse professional and community audiences
  • Advanced strategy and planning skills, demonstrated success in program development
  • Analytical proficiency to interpret financial statements and utilize financial data to inform decision-making and support the Board of Directors
  • Ability to develop and lead the annual budget in collaboration with departmental leaders and key stakeholders
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
The Director's primary focus will be on fostering strong leadership within the organization, ensuring cohesive and efficient teamwork towards shared goals. In the near term, the Director will lead key initiatives to provide a comprehensive overview of the organization's trajectory and strategic direction. They will strengthen the operational framework and implement transformative overhauls, contributing essential guidance for the organization's future. The Director will be the go-to person for outreach, engaging stakeholders effectively and fostering meaningful partnerships. Their ability to articulate and execute initiatives aligned with the Board's expectations will be crucial in achieving organizational objectives. Financial acumen is vital for the fiscal management of the organization and sustainable decision-making. Additionally, the Director will oversee staff development efforts to attract and retain top talent.
The Director's executive presence will be paramount as they represent the organization to stakeholders, including the Board, press, and donors. With a solid foundation in financial management and strategic planning, the Director will review and assess the current strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the mission and vision. They will also lead the development of the next strategic plan. Expertise in fundraising and grant development will be crucial for advancing development efforts and securing resources to support initiatives.
