General Liability Defense Paralegal
Our client is a leading mid-sized law firm with offices in Uniondale, NY and other locations in the tri-state area and Florida. They are currently hiring a Full-time General Litigation Paralegal with at least 4 years of experience. The candidate will work closely with attorneys on various litigation cases and should have previous experience working in a litigation firm. The ideal candidate must be proactive and possess exceptional organizational, scheduling, and calendaring skills. They should also be able to multitask, handle a heavy caseload, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of federal and state statutes, rules, and procedures related to electronic court filings and systems such as PACER, NYSCEF, e-law/e-track. They should also have basic research capabilities using Lexis/Westlaw.
Responsibilities:
- Compose routine court documents, including Notices of Appearances, Pro Hac Vice Motions, Notices of Motions, Subpoenas, Stipulations, and other general court documents.
- Compile and/or draft legal documents for attorney review, such as routine discovery responses and affidavits.
- Request, pursue, subpoena, and collaborate with record vendors to obtain medical treatment and/or educational records.
- Prepare exhibits and other demonstrative evidence.
- Conduct case law research using Lexis/Westlaw and public access websites to support defense strategies.
- Organize, analyze, chart, and/or index medical treatment and education records, documents, and/or exhibits for motion practice.
- Assist attorneys in preparing witnesses for deposition and/or trial regarding general matters.
- Review documents for relevance and privilege in preparation for disclosure.
- Review, categorize, and analyze reports, records, data, and discovery responses.
- Accurately record billable time following company policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- At least 4 years of relevant experience.
- Excellent organizational and follow-up skills.
- Ability to handle multiple time-sensitive tasks.
- Ability to work with multiple attorneys.
- Ability to work on cases with large amounts of documentation.
- Proficiency in Lexis and/or Westlaw, Microsoft Word, Excel, and KOFAX Professional.
- Bachelor's degree and/or Paralegal Certificate.
Hybrid Hours:
Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm with the flexibility to work overtime when needed
Minimum 3 days a week in office
The annualized salary range for this position is $60,000 to $80,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
