Requirements:
•Bachelor's degree in health information management (HIM) or equivalent education and certifications.
•Preferred: Master's degree in business administration or health administration.
•Minimum three years of experience in hospital and professional coding (in-patient and out-patient).
Hours and compensation:
•Full-time position.
•Salary range: $54K-$80K plus benefits and relocation/sign-on bonus.
Responsibilities:
•Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of health information in compliance with federal and state laws and our Medical Center's mission.
•Manage HIM services including coding, reimbursement processes, release of information, birth registry, tumor registry, chart completion, health information privacy, and documentation.
•Supervise the daily operations of the coding unit, including workload, staffing, training, and quality control.
•Set long-term and short-term goals, objectives, plans, and programs, ensuring their successful implementation.
•Assist in budget planning and control, including staffing costs, capital equipment, and coding unit operations.
•Evaluate the impact of innovations and changes in programs, policies, and procedures, designing and implementing systems to improve data accessibility.
•Monitor and maintain acceptable accounts receivable associated with un-coded charts.
•Oversee and monitor the coding compliance program through educational and training programs.
•Conduct coding audits and monitoring, reporting noncompliance issues and recommending corrective action plans.
•Analyze coding practices and case-mix index to identify patterns and variations, comparing them with national and regional norms.
•Review coding-related claim denials and rejections, implementing corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
•Ensure accurate and timely chart completion, as well as patient advocacy on release of information.
•Collaborate with Information Services to ensure data integrity and accurate documentation practices.
•Ensure compliance with medical center policies, procedures, and regulations related to the release of medical information.
•Maintain complete and accurate tumor registry and birth registry filing.
