Instrumentation Design Specialist

Location: Colwich, KS

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are currently hiring an Instrumentation Design Specialist in Colwich, KS. This role involves providing technical leadership and engineering support for instrumentation and automation systems on complex industrial projects. The main responsibilities include developing instrumentation specifications, control designs, and providing field support to ensure quality and efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the day-to-day operations of the instrumentation engineering function within the project team.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and clients to develop and maintain control system documentation, including electrical and instrumentation specifications.
  • Serve as a technical resource for project documents such as control design books and spec books during the design and implementation phases.
  • Assist field staff with troubleshooting and resolving instrumentation-related issues.
  • Lead instrumentation design efforts, including device specifications, take-offs from P&IDs, data sheets, and loop diagrams.
  • Ensure optimal performance and cost-effectiveness of instrument systems.
  • Coordinate with vendors and review instrumentation quotes to align with project requirements.
  • Use systems such as PROCORE and PIDMO for documentation and process control.
  • Contribute to budget development and proposal preparation for instrumentation scopes.
  • Assist in the procurement of materials and maintain effective coordination across departments.
  • Play a role in developing the technical capabilities and growth of the instrumentation team.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline is required.
  • ISA CCST certification is preferred but not required.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in instrumentation, preferably within an industrial or process plant environment.
  • Familiarity with ethanol production or similar industries is a plus.

Skills & Tools:

  • Strong skills in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Familiarity with industrial documentation platforms such as PROCORE and PIDMO is beneficial.
