Tax Analyst Team Lead
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Our client is a health and wellness organization based in Pittsburgh, PA. They provide health insurance plans in Pennsylvania, Delaware, West Virginia and parts of New York State.
LEAD TAX ANALYST - JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage government mandated tax filings for the company and subsidiaries, wholly and jointly owned.
- Ensure timely completion and remittance of tax filings according to internal and external deadlines.
- Coordinate tax, GAAP, and statutory accounting knowledge to design transactions and communicate their impact.
- Prepare necessary calculations and maintain work papers and documentation for tax filings and provisions.
- Identify issues and opportunities and provide resolution/recommendations to Tax Management.
- Handle tax provisions (GAAP & STAT) for the company and subsidiaries.
- Complete tax provisions on time, in accordance with internal and external deadlines.
- Prepare necessary calculations, including current calculations, deferred calculation roll forwards, effective tax rate reconciliations, etc., to support tax provisions.
- Manage necessary financial statement disclosures.
- Conduct tax research and planning for the company and subsidiaries.
- Assist in research and planning functions to determine tax consequences and effectively communicate them.
- Prepare tax forecasts for the company and subsidiaries.
- Ensure accurate calculations and maintain work papers and documentation for tax forecasts.
- Take responsibility for federal and state/local examinations.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills.
- Represent the company and subsidiaries before government authorities with assistance from Tax Management.
- Participate in periodic meetings with subsidiaries to discuss business and tax issues/opportunities.
- Assist external auditors as needed.
- Provide direction, counseling, and instruction to other Tax Staff.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in tax law at all levels of government.
- Research various legislation summaries, tax journals, and tax-related publications to provide pertinent information to impacted parties.
- Perform other assigned duties.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in accounting (required).
- Master's degree in business administration or taxation (preferred).
EXPERIENCE
Required:
- 7 years of experience in the area of specialization, including leading projects of varying size and complexity (exempted experience requirements effective August 2016).
- Experience in tax accounting (ASC 740), tax compliance, and planning in a corporate tax department or public accounting firm.
Preferred:
- Auditing experience or accounting experience.
- Statutory accounting experience and knowledge of insurance taxation.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local taxes and regulations for a multitude of jurisdictions.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).
- Ability to coordinate tax, GAAP, and statutory accounting knowledge to design transactions and communicate their impacts.
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS
Licensed attorney OR CPA (preferred).
