Legal Assistant - Trusts and Estates
A prestigious mid-sized law firm with a national presence and a strong focus on the east coast is seeking a skilled Legal Assistant for their Uniondale office. This position will primarily support attorneys in the Trusts and Estates practice. The role requires a mix of in-office and remote work, with candidates expected to be in-office three days a week and remote two days a week. The working hours are from 9am-5pm, with the potential for overtime when necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and organize case files, including monitoring deadlines, documenting actions, and ensuring information is accurately entered into the file database and case management software.
- Handle telephone calls, maintain client contact, and schedule meetings on behalf of the attorneys.
- Assist attorneys in the creation, formatting, and revision of legal documents such as retainer letters.
- Ensure accuracy in typing and proofread work before returning it to the attorneys.
- Maintain attorney schedules and assist with time entry and expense reports.
- Manage incoming email and correspondence, prioritizing tasks efficiently.
- Scan and email documents, as well as handle e-filing tasks.
- Attend Will signings and display professionalism and empathy in all interactions.
- Collaborate effectively with legal staff, peers, and administrators.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a law firm setting, with a background in Trusts and Estates practice.
- Proactive and capable of assisting with the preparation of legal documents, including Wills, Trusts, and Power of Attorney, while offering administrative support to attorneys.
- Enjoy working closely with clients and their families, demonstrating strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Typing speed of 55+ wpm, excellent spelling and grammar, and exceptional multitasking abilities, both independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with NetDocs is a plus.
