Legal Assistant (Construction)
Our client is currently seeking a Construction Legal Assistant in Raleigh, NC. This position provides support to a group of attorneys in the Litigation practice group by performing various secretarial, administrative, and substantive legal tasks under the direction of the attorneys.
Job Description:
- Utilize technology resources to maximize efficiency and productivity for the attorneys.
- Identify the most effective and efficient methods to complete assigned tasks.
- Create, format, edit, and proofread legal documents using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Format briefs, pleadings, correspondences, and other legal documents.
- Prepare shells for attorneys in anticipation of motions, discovery, and trial documents.
- Assist in the preparation of notebooks, exhibits, and other necessary materials.
- File legal documents electronically with state and federal courts.
- Prepare and edit AIA contracts and custom contracts.
- Perform administrative tasks, such as conflict checks, opening/closing matters, expense reports, and travel arrangements.
- Organize and maintain paper and electronic client files.
- Maintain pleading indexes within the document management system.
- Manage attorney calendars and emails through Outlook.
- Maintain client contact lists and assist in business development efforts.
- Coordinate meetings, conference calls, Zoom calls, and depositions.
- Regular and punctual attendance is required. Flexibility for overtime work may be necessary.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- A minimum of 5 years of secretarial experience in a law firm, with e-filing experience in federal or state courts preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in construction matters.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and PDF).
- Familiarity with Worksite/Filesite document management system is a plus.
- Knowledge of legal practices, terminology, documents, and court procedures.
- Familiarity with the firm's support tools and software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and work under pressure.
- Excellent typing, proofreading, and general clerical skills.
- Capability to coordinate work activities and maintain organized files.
- Proficiency in operating standard office equipment.
- A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required. Additional education is preferred.
