Personal Injury Legal Assistant

Location: San Diego, CA

The chosen candidate will offer comprehensive support to attorneys throughout the case process, from intake to settlement and trial. The firm provides a collaborative setting and chances for meaningful participation in cases.

Job Duties

  • Prepare letters of representation and inform lienholders
  • Input and oversee case data in the case management system
  • Keep track of deadlines, deliver legal documents, and research party information
  • Request medical records and billing from providers
  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients; maintain regular communication
  • Create complaints, discovery requests and responses, and other legal documents
  • Aid in securing experts and coordinating examinations
  • Monitor discovery, pretrial, and trial deadlines
  • Develop settlement demands and mediation briefs
  • Arrange exhibits and assist in preparing for depositions, mediations, and trials
  • Handle settlement logistics, including releases, accounting, and distribution
  • Prepare documentation for minors' compromises and case closure

Requirements

  • Minimum three years of experience as a litigation paralegal, with a focus on personal injury cases
  • Associate or bachelor's degree and a paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program
  • Thorough understanding of civil procedure, court deadlines, and rules
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel); familiarity with eDiscovery platforms (e.g., Relativity) and trial software (e.g., Trial Director) is advantageous
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Capability to handle confidential and emotionally sensitive information with discretion
