CNC Lathe Operator

Location: Sanborn, NY

The position of CNC Lathe Operator is available in Sanborn, NY. The main responsibility of the CNC Lathe Machinist is to program, set up, and operate CNC lathe machines with accuracy to produce high-precision components within stipulated deadlines.


Primary Responsibilities

1. CNC Programming, Setup, and Operation (80%)

  • Create and modify intricate CNC programs using both on-machine and offline techniques by utilizing CAD/CAM software.
  • Fabricate and assemble complex fixtures to facilitate various machining processes.
  • Analyze and interpret blueprints, job travelers, work instructions, program sheets, tooling sheets, quality documents, and GD&T standards.
  • Configure production machines based on specifications, ensuring proper selection and secure attachment of fixtures, jaws, cutting tools, and accessories.
  • Apply mathematical skills to compute dimensions, tolerances, and machining parameters.
  • Detect and rectify machining errors by adjusting machine controls as necessary.
  • Thoroughly inspect and measure finished parts to ascertain quality and adherence to specifications.

2. Workplace Safety & Maintenance (10%)

  • Perform routine maintenance on machines and maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area.
  • Safely handle material handling equipment such as cranes and carts.
  • Adhere to all company safety protocols, including machine guarding and following proper operation procedures.

3. Reporting & Documentation (5%)

  • Maintain accurate records of work orders, production quantities, and quality reports.
  • Follow work order instructions, interpret blueprints, and comprehend geometric tolerances.
  • Participate in training and perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

4. Additional Responsibilities (5%)

  • Carry out additional tasks as requested by the supervisor.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Associate degree in Manufacturing/Technical Programming, completion of a full apprenticeship program, or successful completion of relevant company training (preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a fully qualified machinist (required).

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, job travelers, work instructions, program sheets, tooling sheets, and GD&T standards.
  • Experience with Mastercam, SolidWorks, or similar CAD/CAM software.
  • Strong ability to use precision inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Good understanding of mathematical concepts including algebra, geometry, and basic trigonometry (preferred).
  • Extensive knowledge of work holding, cutting tools, grinding wheels, and shop supplies.
  • Capability to plan, program, set up, and run production based on engineering drawings.
  • Thorough understanding of quality control plans, calibration, and proper use of inspection equipment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Effective time management and ability to work independently or collaboratively.
