Facilities Maintenance Supervisor

Location: Bridgeport, CT

Position Summary:

The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing maintenance and engineering support functions, as well as managing plant improvement projects in a safe and efficient manner. This includes planning and executing planned overhaul projects, overseeing vendors and contractors, and providing guidance for plant maintenance programs using predictive and preventive maintenance techniques. The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor is also responsible for managing the maintenance personnel at the facility, providing technical support for plant and process improvements, and performing other engineering functions as assigned.


Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities:


1. Perform and evaluate plant-specific functions related to predictive and preventative maintenance, availability improvements, and production cost:


A. Coordinate and conduct performance, functional, and surveillance testing of plant systems and components. Analyze data and interpret it with respect to component wear, malfunction, and the need for repair or replacement. Continuously strive to improve the performance of all plant equipment.


B. Utilize tools and analysis techniques to identify potential equipment issues that could cause future outages.


C. Assist in the development of preventative maintenance and scheduled maintenance activities.


D. Provide support in planning plant outages.


E. Evaluate equipment failures and assist with Root Cause Analysis to prevent recurrence.


F. Work closely with the Operations Manager to track facility service hours, equivalent starts, and other operating parameters to update Major Maintenance Inspection schedules for combustion turbines. Update Major Maintenance expense projections for inspections and overhauls. Track component repairs and schedules to ensure the availability of replacement or refurbished parts.


2. Direct the activities of the Maintenance Department personnel to ensure the maintenance of generating requirements and plant efficiency, and compliance with local, state, and federal safety and operational environmental standards. Ensure that facility work orders are completed and closed out using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).


3. Assist the General Manager in developing annual maintenance budgets.


4. Responsible for overseeing the site CMMS program (Maximo). Effectively utilize the CMMS to schedule work, prioritize work orders, maintain inventory, and procure parts and materials.


5. Provide coaching, training, and development opportunities for the maintenance team to ensure they possess the necessary skills and qualifications for their assigned tasks.


6. Assist in investigating plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events. Provide analyses, recommendations, reports, and appropriate follow-up plans.


7. Conduct inspections of boilers, pressure vessels, turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment during forced and annual outages as assigned.


8. Provide technical support in the preparation of specifications, evaluation of bid proposals, and monitoring contractor work to ensure compliance with contracts. Oversee contractors during outages to ensure proper quality assurance and quality control procedures are followed.


9. Coordinate with Corporate Engineering, maintenance and engineering firms, manufacturer sales representatives and service personnel, and vendors to discuss field changes, equipment modifications, and resolve problems.


Additional Requirements:


• Desired experience using Maximo CMMS and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly in Excel.


• Occasional overnight travel may be required.


• Must be physically able to navigate plant facilities and stairways.


Unusual Hours Required


This position will require the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor to be on-call at all times to address emergency conditions and operational and maintenance problems at the plants. Standby duty will also be required.


Job Qualifications:


1. A bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent, with a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant power plant-related experience.
