Maintenance Coordinator - Bridgeport, CT

Position Summary:

The Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for overseeing maintenance and engineering support functions, as well as managing plant improvement projects in Bridgeport, CT. This includes planning and executing overhaul projects, overseeing vendors and contractors, and serving as a plant maintenance computer programs and CMMS (Maximo) expert. Additionally, the Maintenance Coordinator may manage maintenance personnel, provide technical support for process improvements, and coordinate with corporate engineering. Another key responsibility is the purchasing of service contracts, including issuing requests for proposal and managing contract issuance. The Maintenance Coordinator's time will be spent on various tasks, such as purchasing, pre-outage planning, daily work order planning, outage contract supervision, and post-outage feedback.

Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Perform and evaluate plant-specific functions to improve predictive and preventative maintenance, availability, and production cost:
    1. Coordinate and conduct performance, functional, and surveillance testing of plant systems and components to compare data with established standards and identify component wear, malfunction, and repair or replacement needs. Aim to improve overall equipment performance.
    2. Utilize tools and analysis techniques to identify potential equipment issues before they result in forced outages.
    3. Assist in developing preventative and scheduled maintenance activities.
    4. Plan outages for mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical disciplines, as well as long-term planning.
    5. Evaluate equipment failures and assist in Root Cause Analysis to prevent recurrence.
    6. Work closely with the Operations Manager to track facility service hours, starts, and other parameters to update Major Maintenance Inspection schedules and expense projections for combustion turbines. Ensure availability of replacement parts by tracking component repairs and schedules.
  2. In the absence of the Maintenance Manager, oversee Maintenance Department personnel to maintain generating requirements, plant efficiency, and compliance with safety and environmental standards. Ensure completion and closure of facility work orders using the CMMS.
  3. Assist General Manager and Maintenance Manager in developing annual maintenance budgets.
  4. Manage the site CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System - Maximo), including scheduling work, prioritizing work orders, maintaining inventory, and procuring parts and materials.
  5. Provide coaching, training, and development opportunities for the maintenance team.
  6. Assist in investigating plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events, and provide analyses, recommendations, reports, and follow-up plans.
  7. Conduct inspections of boilers, pressure vessels, turbine, generator, and auxiliary equipment during forced and annual outages as assigned.
  8. Provide technical support in preparing specifications, evaluating bid proposals, and monitoring contractor work to ensure compliance. Oversee contractors during outages to ensure proper QA/QC procedures.
  9. Coordinate with Corporate Engineering, external maintenance and engineering firms, manufacturer sales representatives and service personnel, and vendors to discuss equipment changes, resolve issues, and exchange information. Internal contact with various plant personnel to resolve problems, provide technical support, and exchange information.
  10. Manage requests for proposals, evaluate bids, and assist in awarding contracts in compliance with policies and procedures.
  11. Assist the maintenance manager in managing inventory and warehouse operations, ensuring timely reorder of items.
  12. Manage and update work packages and database.
  13. Manage and maintain equipment reports and database.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required
  • Must be physically able to navigate plant facilities and stairways
  • Must be able to work in a standard office environment and operate a computer and other office equipment
  • Strong time management and organization skills
  • Work experience with Maximo, People Soft (Advanced User level)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Microsoft Word Macro Templates and technical writing course
  • Experience working in a team environment

Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent experience preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of power plant or similar experience required
  • At least 5 years' experience supervising technical, supervisory, and administrative personnel preferred
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills required
