Production Engineer.
The position of Production Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining methods, processes, and costs in support of the company's customers and employees. The Production Engineer will collaborate closely with department supervisors and other departments within the company, working in an environment that promotes continuous improvement, lean principles, and best practices. They will suggest and implement improvements or modifications in the sequence of operations, work instructions, equipment utilization, and other related areas to enhance safety, quality, processes, and costs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide support to manufacturing by utilizing disciplined problem-solving techniques (such as fishbone diagrams, 6S, value stream mapping, job safety analysis, etc.) in program launches, rework, and continuous improvement.
- Exhibit effective leadership by constructively challenging established processes, inspiring a shared vision that enables others to take action, and serving as a transparent model and leader.
- Apply an understanding of current and potential process capabilities and process control limits to enhance quality and assess incoming work.
- Support and document continuous improvement opportunities aimed at reducing cycle times and minimizing scrap and waste.
- Develop financial justifications for capital equipment and process changes.
- Design and conduct time studies, method analyses, and other work measurement activities.
- Demonstrate the use of computer simulations of processes and provide input and recommendations for improvements to production processes within the plant.
- Act as a resource, providing expert technical assistance and on-the-job training to employees, ensuring that all work is completed according to specifications in a timely, cost-effective, and safe manner.
- Achieve key performance measures for assigned process families, including safety, quality, cost, productivity, and timely completion of customer orders.
- Create, update, and maintain routings, work instructions, and blueprints to meet customer specifications and quality standards in the most cost-efficient manner.
- Collaborate across all three plants and shifts to ensure consistent support for projects and production.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering/technology or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in manufacturing and/or the metals industry
- Experience in project management, applying industrial engineering methods, and the technical applications of manufacturing practices
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or other CAD/CAM software and Geometrical Tolerance specification/application
- Highly effective communication skills, with the ability to convey technical issues to internal production and business departments, as well as external vendors and customers
- Expert mathematical and mechanical skills
- Extensive experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint
Preferred Skills
- 3 years of applied experience in an Engineering/Technology position in manufacturing and/or the metals industry
- Demonstrated success in improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
- Knowledge and experience in quality tools and relevant safety regulations
- Experience in Value Stream Mapping, Time Standards, Line Balancing, and Plant Floor Layout
- Training in Lean Manufacturing, Visual Factory, Kanban, Kaizen, and Six-Sigma methods
- Experience in materials flow management
- Familiarity with ERP or MRP software
