POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position: CAD Technician / Drafter
BASIC FUNCTION
As a CAD Technician / Drafter, you will utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models of mechanical components and assemblies. Your role will involve collaborating with engineers and other team members to develop design solutions, applying appropriate GD&T features to define tolerances, reviewing and revising designs for accuracy, and staying up to date with the latest CAD technologies and industry trends. Attention to detail and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously are essential to succeed in this position. You will play a crucial role in modeling current casting, patterns, and revising old drawings to meet current specifications and standards.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Utilizing CAD software, such as SolidWorks, to create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models of mechanical components and assemblies according to project specifications and industry standards.
- Collaborating with engineers and team members to understand project requirements and develop design solutions.
- Applying appropriate GD&T features to further define drawing tolerances.
- Reviewing and revising designs to ensure accuracy and quality, identifying and resolving potential design issues.
- Participating in design reviews, providing constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement.
- Staying up to date with the latest CAD technologies and industry trends to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
- Following appropriate processes and ensuring workflows are aligned.
- Providing support on various projects as required.
- Being flexible and adapting to changing priorities.
- Observing all safety regulations and participating in safety training.
PERFORMANCE MEASURES:
- Generating design drawings promptly and accurately using CAD software.
- Maintaining standards and conforming to established policies and practices.
- Ensuring the accuracy and availability of design drawings and customer documentation.
- Implementing process improvement initiatives quickly and effectively.
- Staying up to date with the latest CAD technologies and industry trends to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
- Associate’s degree in a related field. 2+ years of design/drafting experience, preferably with rotating equipment.
- Knowledge of mechanical design/analysis, drafting technology, manufacturing technology, field service, mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, geometry), GD&T, and quality programs.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and CAD tools.
- Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently in a professional capacity.
- Knowledge of 3D scanners and software is a plus.
