Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description:
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the engineering, design, and cost estimation of various projects, as well as obtaining quotations. They will conduct research, develop, design, and test a wide range of machinery, including standard products and customized features based on individual customer requirements. The role requires the use of independent judgment and discretion in executing duties.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate with a design team to prepare designs, sketches, layouts, and schematics.
- Estimate project costs, including material and labor costs, and secure necessary quotations.
- Report equipment problems and identify unsafe practices. Attend engineering, safety, and production meetings.
- Manage A.R. budgeting, record-keeping, and expenditure approvals. Evaluate inventory, approve invoices, and write requisitions.
- Schedule job installations and expedite equipment delivery.
- Evaluate and review new procedures and store requisitions.
- Inspect job installations, equipment operations, safety measures, and new equipment.
- Supervise contractors and hourly workers on projects. Provide technical assistance to the Maintenance Department. Train new equipment operators and maintenance personnel.
- Conduct engineering and design of equipment and systems. Develop procedures and equipment specifications.
- Assume additional duties and responsibilities as needed.
Required Education and Experience/Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred, or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including CAD/CAM operations.
- Excellent mechanical, analytical, and technical skills.
- Strong administrative, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to lead a team and coordinate resources to achieve process improvement goals.
- Ability to analyze problems from an organizational perspective.
- Thorough working knowledge of plant engineering, industrial engineering, and tooling.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
