Summary
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to work in an innovative and dynamic environment. Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job involves working in a professional office and laboratory environment. You will use standard office equipment like laptops and photocopiers, as well as specialized equipment such as 3D printers, shock & vibration tables, and temperature sensing equipment.
Physical Demands
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will need to have good verbal and written communication skills. The position may require close vision and the ability to lift lab equipment and perform tasks like opening cabinets and standing on a stool. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position with an expected 40-hour work week. Office hours are typically Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, but may vary based on workload and the manager's discretion. There may be additional hours required as needed for the job.
Travel
Minimal travel (less than 10%) may be necessary for this position.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Must be a US citizen and eligible for a U.S. Security Clearance.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical design.
- Experience with electronic packaging for high reliability environments in the defense and aerospace industries.
- Extensive knowledge of ASME Y14.5M-2009 and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
- Proficiency in mechanical fabrication techniques including machining, sheet metal, and composites.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 and/or DO-160 specifications and test methods.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and providing technical review.
- Proficiency with mechanical CAD tools, preferably SolidWorks.
- Hands-on experience in a multidisciplinary hardware development environment.
- Strong analytical and hardware troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate technical concepts.
- Desire to solve new and challenging problems and a comfort in a lab environment.
- Must have the ability to obtain a security clearance.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Proficiency in a technical programming language such as Matlab or Python.
- Experience with new business capture, including concept development, requirements analysis, and customer interaction.
- Leadership experience in technical development teams.
