Mechanical Engineering Manager
Location: Charleston, SC
Our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to join our maintenance organization. In this role, you will provide technical and developmental support with a focus on TPM to our maintenance team. You will report directly to the VP of Engineering and collaborate closely with the Production and Reliability teams. Responsibilities include ensuring overall asset health, analyzing process concerns and performance gaps, guiding resources to resolve issues, developing maintenance technical skills, and ensuring compliance with company mechanical engineering standards.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction to the maintenance team in areas such as safety, housekeeping, 5S standards, lean manufacturing, planning, TPM/reliability, cost, efficiency, quality, and labor utilization (productivity).
- Implement TPM and Reliability best practices to ensure machine stability and efficiency.
- Analyze process concerns and performance gaps, and guide resources to resolve manufacturing and maintenance problems to minimize cost and prevent operation delays.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, quality specifications, and safety standards.
- Lead TPM activities, including data collection through PMs, maintenance planning, coordinating planned work during outages, and continuously improving the maintenance planning and execution process.
- Manage departmental spend and budget.
- Support safety initiatives and establish benchmarks within the maintenance team.
- Collaborate with capital project teams to integrate maintenance and reliability into projects.
- Train and develop highly motivated teammates.
- Maintain continuous communication and transparency with all involved departments on project status and the development progress of team members.
- Improve the technical skill sets of the department to meet and exceed specified targets.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Proven work experience as a Project/Plant/Manufacturing/Maintenance Engineer
- Experience with Predictive Maintenance or Condition-Based Monitoring (Vibration analysis, infrared thermography, ultrasonic emissions)
- Familiarity with TPM principles
- Greenfield experience is a plus
- Demonstrated commitment to zero incident safety culture, teammate engagement, active teamwork, and continuous improvement
- Solid organizational skills and time-management
- Proficient in MS Office products and MS Project
- Proficient in AutoCAD or similar drawing package
