Operations and Maintenance Technician
Location: Athens, GA
SUMMARY
The Operations and Maintenance Technician is responsible for operating the facility and utilizing advanced maintenance skills. The selected candidate(s) will be placed in either a single skill position or a multi-skilled position based on prior experience.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct all work activities in a professional, environmentally conscious, and safe manner.
- Ensure operational efficiency, unit reliability, and compliance with safety and environmental standards.
- Maintain and execute tactical processes in a team-oriented, multi-discipline environment.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all plant equipment, including instrumentation, control systems, mechanical, and electrical equipment.
MULTI-SKILLS
- Experienced in troubleshooting and correcting electrical maintenance problems, such as switchgear, motors, breakers, and plant wiring. Familiarity with high-tech electronic test equipment and precision test instruments for problem identification is required.
- Experienced in troubleshooting, calibrating, repairing, tuning, and replacing advanced I & C equipment and components. Must be able to maintain the plant Distributed Control System and related equipment. Completion of extensive technical training in modern I & C work is required.
- Experienced in troubleshooting and correcting mechanical problems, including combustion turbines, pumps, compressors, valves, and rotating equipment. Proficiency in alignment, basic machining, rigging, and equipment component inspection and repair is necessary.
- Experienced in operating a simple cycle power plant and must qualify as a control room operator.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
- 3 - 5+ years of related experience required in a power plant environment.
- Full knowledge and proficiency in the operation and maintenance of a combustion turbine generating station, including balance-of-plant equipment.
- Specific experience with Siemens Westinghouse 501 FC and 501 FD combustion turbine and Siemens Westinghouse V84.3.A2 preferred.
- Understanding of T3000 and Ovation control systems preferred.
- Understanding of dispatch protocol.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work.
- Ability to handle changing work priorities and schedules and work effectively with other team members.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact with diverse personality types.
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office and other productivity tools.
- Good decision-making abilities, long-term developmental capabilities, and networking skills.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred.

Working Conditions:
- Normal power plant environment and/or outdoor work environment.
- Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data.
- Outdoor conditions may range from very cold to hot and humid. Will work in confined spaces, dust, grease and oil, and be exposed to loud noise.
- May require overtime, non-standard working hours, and occasional travel outside the service area.
- Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment.
- Requires operation of a personal computer.
- May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals.
- Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate for duties and responsibilities.
