Operations and Maintenance Technician
The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment, as well as the monitoring and maintenance of equipment throughout the facility. This role involves performing preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems, completing assigned tasks in a flexible work environment, and ensuring the safe, compliant, and reliable operation of the equipment. The O&M Technician plays a critical role in supporting both the maintenance and operation of the plant, making important decisions for the facility's care and control. This includes maintaining the facility based on operational data and good judgment and working rotating shifts.
Responsibilities:
- Provide input to the O&M Manager on work plans and directions, and maintain relationships with other positions
- Work in a high-performance, disciplined, and innovative manner, focused on achievement and accountability
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical systems and equipment issues
- Conduct routine inspections and tests on mechanical systems and equipment
- Repair, maintain, and install mechanical systems and equipment as directed
- Interact, lead, and direct contractors for site-related jobs
- Perform various operational, mechanical, and electrical activities
- Operate plant equipment, including plow trucks, cranes, forklifts, lawn maintenance equipment, snow blowers, scissor lifts, and aerial lifts
- Interface with the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for maintenance activities, inventory tracking, and equipment history
- Maintain storeroom inventory and handle the shipping and receiving of parts and materials
- Comply with all applicable Environmental, Health, and Safety policies, operating procedures, and NERC Standards
- Operate and maintain the facility independently, utilizing plant system troubleshooting tools and plant performance data gathering
- Qualified and proficient in operating the facility via turbine and balance of plant controls, including startup and shutdown
- Identify and communicate unusual plant conditions to co-workers
- Complete and document all required permitting functions, including Job Safety Analysis, Work Authorization, LOTO, Hot Work, and Confined Space
- Provide assistance to colleagues in problem resolution
- Work regular base schedule hours with flexibility for overtime and irregular hours as needed
- Perform housekeeping duties and continuously improve the facility's appearance
- Prioritize job tasks effectively
- Complete any other assigned duties to contribute to safe and reliable plant operation
Education/Experience Required:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Five (5) years of power plant experience in operations and/or maintenance, including experience as a Control Room Operator (CRO)
- CRO qualification preferred
