Summary:

The Manager of Operations in Portsmouth, NH provides leadership to plant operations personnel, ensuring safe and efficient operation of generating equipment under the guidance of the General Manager. Their responsibilities include managing daily facility operations to ensure safety for personnel and the environment, developing and maintaining operational procedures, monitoring plant performance, and ensuring compliance with permits and regulations.

  • Directs and leads control room operators, outside operators, and operations department staff to maintain generating requirements, plant efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Interfaces with Energy Management department to fulfill plant operation obligations.
  • Develops, supports, and coordinates facility outages, testing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Implements and improves operational processes, procedures, and training.
  • Creates and maintains an accurate operations shift schedule, ensuring adequate staffing.
  • Investigates operating abnormalities and incidents to improve equipment performance and minimize maintenance needs.
  • Prepares necessary operation reports and investigates forced outages.
  • Recruits, interviews, and trains operations group members.
  • Prepares operating department budgets and makes recommendations for operating and capital budgets.
  • Acts as project manager for facility projects as needed.
  • Maintains inventory and procures operating supplies.
  • Manages liquid fuel inventories in coordination with Energy Management.
  • Reviews maintenance activities and assists in troubleshooting equipment abnormalities.
  • Establishes individual and department goals based on market dynamics and stakeholder needs.
  • Supports EHS Manager and Engineering Manager in process and procedure development, root cause analysis, and document control.
  • Serves as primary technical point of contact with ISO-NE and transmission operator for communication of production issues, outage requests, and data submittals.
  • Acts as facility NERC Compliance Coordinator, overseeing NERC Reliability Standards compliance.
  • Maintains compliance with NERC Operations and Planning standards.
  • Ensures compliance with NERC CIP Medium OT cybersecurity standards.
Education/Experience Required:

A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent technical leadership experience is required. 5+ years of power plant or similar experience is required, with gas turbine combined cycle experience highly desirable. At least 2 years of supervisory experience is required, along with strong leadership and motivational skills.
