Responsibilities:
- Oversees the daily clinical operations of the operating room, including staffing, payroll, budgets, fiscal management, and quality improvement. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and departmental policies.
- Develops and implements plans to enhance staff development. Supervises a team of 20-60+ employees.
- Monitors and adjusts staffing levels based on patient needs while maintaining high-quality care and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Manages daily operations, including HR management, safety programs, and risk management.
- Ensures the delivery of coordinated and cost-effective patient care, while adhering to quality and service standards.
- Collaborates with healthcare providers outside of the operating room to ensure optimal patient care. Implements best practices from other units and resolves patient concerns.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience as a charge nurse, preceptor, or quality improvement champion.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in nursing required
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Master's degree preferred
License, Certification, Registration
- Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license in California
- Basic Life Support certification
Additional Requirements:
- Completion of training as a preceptor or charge nurse
- Knowledge of quality improvement processes, clinical care delivery, staffing, and budgeting
- Familiarity with Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory requirements
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- ACLS, PALS, NRP certifications may be required for specific departments
- Ability to thrive in a Labor/Management Partnership environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- ACLS certification strongly preferred
- Master's degree in nursing preferred
- Experience as a preceptor, trainer, or educator
- Experience working in a union environment
- Strong, positive communication style with a collaborative and patient-focused approach
- Ability to quickly resolve challenges in a fast-paced environment
