Processing Shift Manager

Location: Fort Madison, IA

This position is for a Processing Shift Manager located in Fort Madison, IA. The primary responsibilities of this role include directing and supervising plant personnel in the operations area to ensure the production of the highest quality product at the lowest cost standards. This involves coordinating the availability of raw materials and ensuring that production machinery is functioning adequately to meet production demands. The Processing Shift Manager also develops, trains, and schedules necessary personnel to meet production demands and works with HR on personnel issues such as interviews, hiring, evaluations, corrective counseling, and additional training as needed.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Ensure food safety and quality
  • Supervise production line supervision to meet Company specifications and objectives
  • Allocate labor to exceed Company standards
  • Oversee cleanliness of plant production areas
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and corporate policies
  • Train the workforce in job requirements
  • Ensure critical information flow to all levels and shifts of plant management
  • Monitor ingredient usage and maintain quality objectives
  • Coordinate production requirements with maintenance and engineering
  • Promote continuous improvement in safety, cost effectiveness, and product quality
  • Maintain a safe work environment
  • Provide safety awareness and training through front-line supervisors
  • Support safety programs
  • Report ingredient usage and labor figures for costing and recall requirements
  • Share key metrics with front-line supervisors for continuous improvement
  • Interface with Human Resources
  • Work 3rd shift and some weekends

Position Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Biology, Industrial Management, or related field
  • 4-6 years of related experience and/or training in the food industry, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to solve practical problems and work with limited standardization
  • Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
