Safety and Education Coordinator
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
JOB SUMMARY
The Safety and Education Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the Safety and Health program as well as the training plan. This role requires strong leadership and influence to ensure the safety program is effective, demonstrating a high level of accountability and ownership. The coordinator will manage and maintain the safety program while engaging with all key stakeholders. They will also work closely with plant leadership to develop, maintain, audit, and continuously improve the safety program.
ESSSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Possess extensive knowledge of occupational health and safety standards while acting as the primary regulatory liaison for relevant agencies
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Safety and Health Program in compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards
- Collaborate with management to establish training objectives aligned with organizational goals
- Create training programs, including detailed outlines, instructional materials, handouts, and assessment exercises
- Create and execute an annual training plan for all departments
- Maintain a comprehensive training matrix for employees, contractors, and visitors to track qualifications and expirations
- Act as the Administrator of the Learning Management System for Plant Specific Regulatory Training
- Develop and deliver orientation programs for contractors and new hires
- Schedule training sessions to ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements
- Deliver formal lectures on safety and training topics to ensure compliance and understanding
- Observe trainees in the classroom and effectively address their inquiries
- Administer written and practical exams and provide detailed performance reports
- Conduct regular observations and provide coaching to enhance performance
- Adhere to the placement and filing of OSHA Logs and track and maintain KPIs
- Participate in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to gather relevant information for the training program
- Collaborate with management to develop required drills, audits, reports, physicals, and reporting protocols
- Work with supervisors to identify plant hazards, assist with JSA's, implement root cause analysis, and ensure PPE compliance
- Lead investigations into accidents, near-misses, and safety-related issues
- Work with first line supervision in incident reporting, near miss reporting, accident reporting, and follow-up actions
- Perform other necessary responsibilities as assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS)
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience
- Two to three years of relevant experience and/or training
- Minimum of two years experience in oil, gas, mining, power plant, or equivalent operations
- Ability to lead and influence teams to cultivate a positive safety culture
- Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with Excel, Word, MS Outlook, Power Point, Access, Taproot, etc.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member
- Ability to handle stressful situations and work extended hours on short notice if needed
- Competence in reading, analyzing, and interpreting business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, and effectively communicate with groups and management
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts, and interpret a variety of instructions
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical exam, drug and alcohol testing, and background check
