As the Sales Manager, your role will be to effectively manage and lead the sales team. Your primary objective will be to generate revenue and volume growth by providing exceptional consultative services and strategic value to customers.
You will be responsible for overseeing the productivity of the sales team, ensuring that all representatives are dedicated to meeting customers' needs. Your extensive market knowledge of corrugated packaging, technical expertise, and consumer insights will be crucial in guiding the team towards success.
The Sales Manager will be involved in training and coaching sales representatives, as well as supporting the Business Unit Sales Manager in setting goals, providing direction, and establishing customer contact standards. Furthermore, you will provide continuous support to customers, sales representatives, and the leadership team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the sales team to exceed volume and profit goals through new account development, growth in existing accounts, and margin improvement initiatives
- In collaboration with the Business Unit Sales Manager, develop the sales strategy for the business unit and effectively communicate the strategic goals and direction
- Create and implement processes, training, and tools that align with the business unit strategy, ensuring activities and KPIs are in line with strategic goals
- Manage the sales team to establish and maintain a strong prospect pipeline, meeting volume growth objectives and driving positive outcomes
- Guide the sales team in identifying, closing, developing, and expanding strategic accounts
- Collaborate with Sales Representatives and Pre-Pricing Specialists to develop pricing and sales strategies for target accounts, ensuring alignment with business unit requirements, profitability goals, and plant production capabilities
- Negotiate large customer contracts and provide support in the development of formal agreements, working alongside Sales Representatives, Management, and Legal
- Maintain pipeline visibility through monthly sales meetings and cadence calls with Sales Representatives
- Assist in the development of the annual budget and monthly forecasts
- Conduct monthly performance review meetings with direct reports to evaluate performance, identify and eliminate obstacles, and discuss growth and development opportunities
- Mentor and train the sales team to enhance industry knowledge, relationship development, system proficiency, and effective processes
- Onboard, train, and coach new team members to facilitate their quick assimilation and productivity
- Retain top talent, ensuring their motivation, engagement, and continuous growth of their capabilities
Qualifications for Success:
- High School diploma or G.E.D.; Bachelor's degree preferred
- A minimum of 5 years of sales experience, preferably in the manufacturing or corrugated industry; 5 years of sales leadership experience is preferred
- Proven track record of achieving and surpassing sales objectives
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to make effective decisions in order to reach goals and objectives
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Proficiency in utilizing order entry systems, CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce), and reporting systems
