As the Senior Engineering Manager (SEM), you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the high level of competence required in the engineering group to support critical weapon system engineering processes. These processes include early concept development, requirements analysis and definition, and management through detailed design, integration, and qualification. You will also ensure technical support for production activities during the sustainment phase. The successful SEM candidate will provide expert leadership and guidance at all levels of the engineering organization and demonstrate technical prowess while managing the needs of a mid-sized engineering department.
As the SEM, you will collaborate with the Program Manager, Chief Engineer, and program engineering leads to make crucial decisions pertaining to architecture, design, and technology choices. You will serve as the technical beacon for the organization, working with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate analysis of customer requirements, development and allocation of system requirements, and definition and execution of verification and validation plans. Additionally, you will collaborate with external stakeholders and functional teams to address issues and propose solutions that meet system requirements and performance expectations.
In this position, the SEM will have two main responsibilities:
- Approximately 20% of the role will involve managing the team's functional groups, including System Engineering, Integration & Test (SEIT), Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Design, and Configuration/Data Management. This management role encompasses all aspects of staff management, from recruitment and onboarding to training, coaching/mentoring, and career development. It also includes performance and compensation management, as well as employee separation.
- Approximately 80% of the role will be dedicated to direct program tasking, which may involve engineering development design or testing, depending on the phase of each program. This part of the role also encompasses proposal leadership, technical strategy development, cost estimating, and contribution to research and development strategies and business growth opportunities.
Requirements:
- A Department of Defense Secret security clearance must be obtainable within a reasonable amount of time from hire.
- A Bachelor's degree in electrical, software, mechanical, or systems engineering is required, along with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a master's degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience can be considered to meet managerial expectations. Leadership experience, including managing development and production programs, budgeting, scheduling, and people management, is also required.
