Lead Surveying Specialist

Location: Corpus Christi, TX

Our expertise also extends to urban development plans, site improvement work, and oversight of construction projects related to water, wastewater, and drainage systems for a variety of municipalities and government organizations in South Texas.

Our Corpus Christi team is currently seeking a Senior Surveyor (RPLS). In this role, you will contribute to the technical aspects of interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments. You will take the lead in planning and developing surveying projects that address unique or controversial problems with significant implications for major organization programs. This will involve exploring the subject area, defining the scope, selecting problems for investigation, and developing concepts and approaches.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and oversee mid-level sized projects or projects of moderate scope and importance, or assist in guiding the surveying program of an organization when the program is limited in complexity and scope. Generally overseeing a few (3-5) subordinate supervisors.
  • Participate in the conception, planning, and research related to problem areas of moderate scope and complexity. These problems require a series of comprehensive and conceptually-related studies, are difficult to define, require unconventional approaches, and demand sophisticated research techniques. Available guides and precedents may have critical gaps, only partially relate to the problem, or be lacking due to the novel nature of the project.
  • As a specialized staff member, assist in applying advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes to the assigned area of responsibility. Stay updated on new methods and developments that impact the organization in order to recommend changes to program focus or introduce new programs as appropriate.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise the work of survey department staff, as well as other professionals and technicians. Evaluate the progress and results of staff, and recommend significant changes to achieve overall objectives.
  • Effective communication skills are necessary to maintain relationships with existing clients and establish new client relations. The Surveyor is expected to spend time, outside of regular business hours if necessary, engaging in local civic organizations, community events, etc., as a way to foster client connections and further develop client relationships.
  • Perform assigned duties as directed by supervisor.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.


  • Preference for a Bachelor of Science degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university
  • Texas RLS registration is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in using AutoCAD and Terramodel CADD software is necessary
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office – Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record according to EMC fleet insurance requirements.
  • Passing a background check is necessary for access to military, industrial, port, and other client sites.

  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks within given instructions, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
