Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
The Senior Radiology Technologist will work under the guidance of the Radiology administrator and/or their designee. They will perform both routine and specialized imaging procedures, while ensuring that patients are properly prepared. Additionally, they will assist radiologists when necessary and maintain and operate the equipment being used. This role will also involve processing images and CDs as needed, while adhering to established standards of care and applying radiation protection principles to minimize exposure. The Senior Radiology Technologist will be responsible for their assigned area and duties, as well as participating in hospital customer service programs and performing quality assurance tasks. They will exercise professional judgment while conducting diagnostic and specialized medical radiographic images with the help of radiologic assistance.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Include the Following:
- Comprehend and adhere to the Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors
- Ensure proper patient preparation and positioning for specific examinations, while documenting necessary information for each protocol
- Take responsibility for designated areas and/or procedures, producing high-quality technical images and reviewing completed exams for accuracy and completeness
- Assist physicians during procedures as required
- Perform equipment quality assurance and calibrations as necessary, and order supplies
- Be available for emergency procedures, on-call shifts, and coverage for varying shifts to maintain adequate departmental coverage
- Maintain clean work areas and report any malfunctioning equipment
- Process images and print CDs when necessary
- Carry out routine office duties such as answering phones and checking patient records
- Coordinate patient transport back to their respective floors
- Show radiologist images, call reports to attending physicians, and document communications if required
- May serve as an instructor or preceptor
- Interact professionally and courteously with all staff members
- Introduce self and educate patients and family members about the ordered examination
- Provide age-appropriate care to patients of various age groups
- Attend staff meetings and in-service sessions, perform additional duties as necessary
- Fulfill scheduling, timekeeping, and ordering supply responsibilities
- Oversee daily patient flow and departmental tasks
Education & Experience Requirements:
- The Senior Radiology Technologist must be a graduate of an allied health education and an accredited radiography school or hospital-based program. They must also possess NY State DOH Licensure or a Limited Permit, in addition to being ARRT registered (RT) and radiograph (R) certified.
- Maintaining continuing education requirements is necessary to meet the standards set by governing bodies. Currently, 24 ECE credits over a two-year period are required, with the specific amount depending on the year of birth.
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required, or it must be completed within 90 days of hire.
- The Senior Radiology Technologist will undergo radiation dose pledge training for both Image Gently and Image Wisely through the American College of Radiology (ACR) during the orientation process and before the end of the probationary period.
