Senior Environmental Health and Safety Manager, Multi-Site

Location: Spring Grove, IL

Position Summary:

The Senior Environmental Health and Safety Manager, Multi-Site, based in Spring Grove, IL, is responsible for developing and implementing programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses. This role involves identifying and evaluating potential accident and loss-producing conditions, developing accident-prevention and loss-control systems, and coordinating safety activities across multiple facilities. The manager will compile and interpret statistical data related to occupational illnesses and accidents, maintain liaison with external organizations, and lead safety continuous improvement efforts.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with company leaders to create a strategic plan and initiatives aligned with the company vision
  • Implement strategic initiatives to enhance safety and environmental performance for three manufacturing locations and one corporate location
  • Communicate the vision to the organization and engage all levels of the organization in achieving it
  • Develop and champion culture change activities and tools to foster an injury-free work environment
  • Create corporate safety policies and standards
  • Establish proactive relationships with regulatory agencies like OSHA, EPA, and DNR
  • Mentor front line supervisors and lead employees in understanding the communication and activities required for an injury-free work environment
  • Conduct on-site visits to positively reinforce safety critical behaviors and coach employees on at-risk behaviors
  • Collaborate with employees to address safety issues
  • Lead safety continuous improvement teams and projects
  • Conduct regular safety and environmental process audits
  • Ensure completion of audit and incident investigation corrective actions and verify their sustainment
  • Maintain required safety and environmental documentation and submit accurate and timely reports to regulatory agencies
  • Deliver training and presentations both internally and externally
  • Establish and monitor leading safety performance indicators/metrics and communicate them to employees
  • Build relationships with medical care providers and emergency response organizations to enhance the quality and efficiency of employee care
  • Manage the random drug & alcohol testing program and the 2nd chance program
  • Oversee the worker’s compensation and return to work process for injured employees
  • Lead emergency response actions for first responders, including injury, fire, severe weather, and training incidents

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety or a related field
  • Preferred: Post-graduate degree in safety, business, environmental science, or a related field
  • Minimum 7 years of experience leading plant/corporate safety culture
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification and/or Certified Utility Safety Administrator (CUSA)
  • Understanding of Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF), National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP)
  • Working knowledge of applicable OSHA and EPA standards, regulations, and guidelines
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills with an emphasis on PowerPoint and Excel
  • Dynamic public speaking skills
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of plant-level safe work practices and procedures
  • Willingness to be actively involved in the shop environment
  • Demonstrates a self-starting attitude with dedicated follow-through to complete projects on time
