Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Stockbridge, GA

Responsibilities:

The Electrical Design Engineer will evaluate existing electrical systems and propose cost-effective enhancements. They will generate electrical Bills of Materials (BOMs), create wiring schematics, conduct quality assurance, inspect equipment, run diagnostics, and ensure projects are completed on time and according to specifications. The engineer will also contribute to the development of equipment through the implementation of emerging technologies and best practices in controls design for high-speed automated packaging equipment.

  • Show strong leadership and organizational skills. Troubleshoot systems efficiently and have a genuine passion for engineering.

  • Develop, review, update, and modify PLC, Motion, and HMI Code.

  • Generate and maintain BOMs.

  • Develop, review, update, and modify safety systems to meet standards.

  • Design electrical schematics and panel layouts that comply with NEC / NFPA 70, UL508 standards.

  • Program using IEC standards LD, IL, SFC, ST.

  • Research new components to stay up-to-date with technology advancements.

  • Develop, review, update, modify, and approve electrical schematics.

  • Collaborate with project managers, manufacturing professionals, and other engineers to ensure projects meet specifications.

  • Establish relationships with customer-facing organizations, vendors, suppliers, and other professionals to expand networks.

  • Resolve supply chain issues by identifying alternative parts when preferred components are unavailable.

  • Analyze existing processes and schedule meetings to discuss improvement initiatives.

  • Conduct research, perform diagnostics, and troubleshoot equipment.

  • Lead development projects by directing and influencing cross-functional teams.

  • Machine Production and Installation Support:

    • Support Technical Sales managers on platform production projects.

    • Respond to questions, troubleshoot, provide studies and estimates.

    • Provide cost-effective solutions to customer product issues while maintaining design integrity.

    • Support field service in commissioning machines.

    • Collaborate with customers to integrate machines into projects.

    • Give guidance to assembly teams during the manufacturing process.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.

  • At least 2 years of experience in electrical/controls/programming (Required).

  • Experience in packaging machinery (Preferred).

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.

  • Practical experience with Electrical CAD software.

  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.

  • Excellent motivational skills and ability to multitask.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

  • Create standard machinery controls designs to address customer packaging needs.

  • Ensure accuracy of calculations for electrical and pneumatics in designing automation mechanisms and equipment.

  • Research purchased electrical components to ensure adequate sizing and selection of devices.

  • Utilize AutoCAD 2D to develop electrical layout drawings, control cabinet drawings, and pneumatic layout drawings for production and customer identification purposes.

  • Assist in cost reduction and quality improvement for electrical designs in machinery.

  • Understand customer's electrical specifications and requirements for packaging operations.

  • Assist technical writer in creating machine documentation.

  • Program standard equipment upgrades and custom packaging machinery.

  • Participate in startup and commissioning of machinery in plant and occasionally at the customer’s facility.
