ELECTRICAL POWER DESIGN ENGINEER

General Description

Our company is seeking a qualified Electrical Power Design Engineer in Long Beach, CA to assist with our expanding electrical power offerings. We are a highly regarded electrical power and control systems engineering firm with nationwide recognition.

Key Experience & Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in creating comprehensive electrical construction and specification packages.
  • Ability to develop plans such as load studies, single line diagrams, plot plan & area/building detail diagrams, lighting, grounding, conduit and cable schedules, construction specifications, and equipment and installation details.
  • Preferably, experience in area classification drawings, motor/breaker schematics and wiring diagrams, and lightning protection.
  • Familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC), IEEE 3000 Series, and API 500 (preferred).
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with power system modeling tools such as ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower is preferred.
  • Experience with electrical power relay settings generation and implementation, preferably with GE Multilin and SEL.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam. Professional Engineer License preferred, or ability to obtain licensure within 2 years.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of electrical power load studies.
  • Create comprehensive electrical power construction packages for plan check and stamping by a Professional Engineer.
  • Generate detailed electrical power specifications for company construction packages.
  • Prepare bills of material and collaborate with vendors for equipment pricing.
  • Conduct field verification walkdowns and as-building of existing Electrical and E&I infrastructure.
  • Perform factory acceptance testing on electrical power equipment.
  • Execute start-up and commissioning activities, including troubleshooting electrical power and E&I issues as needed.
  • Provide after-hours support for internal and external clients.
  • Collaborate with Project Manager(s) to ensure quality, budget adherence, and communicate technical progress or issues.
  • Assist in developing cost estimates and proposals for new projects.
  • Travel up to 25% with willingness to travel by air.
