Senior Project Architect

Job Summary

The role of Senior Project Architect in Phoenix, AZ involves providing daily guidance and mentorship to the project team as the project progresses through different stages. This includes both the design and technical aspects of the project. The Senior Project Architect is responsible for developing designs and project documents in accordance with client and industry standards, serving as the Document Team Leader.

Duties and Responsibilities

Project Leadership:

  • Assume project management responsibilities for assigned projects, including client and consultant meetings and communications.
  • Coordinate all project activities from initial design to construction administration.
  • Establish project documentation requirements through research, discussions with project stakeholders, and client interviews.
  • Create architectural solutions to meet client requirements, needs, and complexities.
  • Collaborate with the design team to develop an overall project design that addresses the client's budget, schedule, and vision. Provide technical expertise on materials and design choices that can benefit the project.
  • Oversee the creation of technical documentation (drawings and specifications) for all project phases, following client standards.
  • Compile the project product manual to document design decisions.
  • Lead a team of technical staff to develop project technical documentation requirements and solutions.
  • Coordinate with consultants to ensure the integration of architectural drawings and specifications with structural, electrical, and mechanical requirements.
  • Prepare code analysis and review project documents for compliance with relevant regulations and documentation requirements.
  • Perform construction administration tasks, including reviewing shop drawings, responding to requests for information (RFIs), conducting site visits, and making document modifications as needed.

Document Team Leader Role:

  • Setting Project Documentation Requirements:

    • Communicate document set requirements to project team leaders to establish a milestone schedule.
    • Conduct code analysis and ensure document compliance.
  • Meeting Documentation Budget:

    • Create a work plan for the document team and assign tasks to staff members.
    • Monitor documentation efforts to ensure adherence to the allocated client hours/budget.
  • Completing Documentation Within Project Schedule:

    • Define documentation milestones for inclusion in the overall project schedule.
  • Leading and Directing Documentation Team:

    • Direct and supervise both client document team members and consultant team members to achieve milestones and maintain quality.
    • Provide weekly progress reports to the Project Manager.
    • Identify submittals for review during construction administration.
    • Approve changes from contract documents during construction administration.
    • Assist in document modifications required during construction administration.
  • Ensuring Quality of Drawings and Specifications:

    • Coordinate consultant documentation.
    • Create details that align with the design direction and intent.
    • Incorporate feedback from quality assurance (QA) reviews.
    • Compile final project records and input space allocations into the Project Journal at project completion.

Other:

  • Assist in Quality Control reviews and have a thorough understanding of local and state building codes. Alert the team to potential conflicts.
  • Support new business development opportunities and participate in the proposal/interview process as required. Assist in the development and presentation of materials, drawings, and models to support this process.
  • Take on special projects and additional duties as assigned or requested.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) or Master of Architecture (MArch) degree.
  • At least 10 years of experience in architecture, including supervisory management experience.

Training Requirements (Licenses, Programs, or Certificates):

  • Must be a licensed architect with professional registration.
  • Advanced proficiency in Computer and Information Management Skills, specifically Revit.
