Lead Heat Pump Development Engineer

Primary Function
We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer specializing in New Product Development for Heat Pumps. This role will be based at our Heat Pump Engineering Center of Excellence in Lebanon, Tennessee.

  • Manage complex and significant engineering projects from start to finish, ensuring on-time and within-budget completion
  • Apply engineering standards and procedures, providing advice on challenges within the field
  • Balance and prioritize multiple projects as needed
  • Collaborate effectively within a team to accomplish group tasks and participate in brainstorming activities
  • Communicate technical material to internal business units and cross-functional teams
  • Develop detailed test programs and plans, providing guidance to laboratory and CAD personnel
  • Conduct and evaluate product-specific tests, documenting the results
  • Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, standards, and customer requirements
  • Coordinate activities to address technical developments, rescheduling issues, and engineering problems
  • Request, evaluate, and approve product design changes and specifications
  • Collaborate with other Engineering Staff to provide input based on your expertise
  • Prepare project expense estimates and control expenditures within the project budget
  • Provide support to field service engineering, incorporating improvements into future products
  • Maintain professionalism in accordance with company values
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 5 years of experience, or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 3 years of experience, or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience with Refrigerant Cycles in HVAC air conditioning systems and/or heat pumps
  • In-depth understanding of HVAC system functions including refrigeration, heat transfer, airflow, and ventilation
  • Experience with various components used in HVAC systems such as evaporator coils, compressors, condensers, and fans
  • Design and hands-on testing experience with air conditioning and/or heat pump systems
  • Proficiency in design/simulation/analysis tools such as Solidworks, LabVIEW, EES, CFD, FEA, and ERP software
  • Strong analytical skills for cost review and budget reporting
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to travel 10 - 15% for product testing, field installations, and meetings with internal Engineering teams
