Senior Engineering Project Manager

Location: Topeka, KS

The Senior Engineering Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing and executing projects related to food safety. Key responsibilities include developing scopes of work, user requirements, project plans, budgets, and cost controls.

Reports to: Plant Engineer
In this role, you will:
· Develop technical expertise relevant to the position
· Participate in and/or lead improvement teams to achieve targeted improvements aligned with plant and company objectives
· Create project charters and project funding requests
· Provide technical leadership within cross-functional teams to successfully deliver initiatives and plant projects
· Lead options analysis for project technology decisions and process changes to support product/process innovations, collaborating with corporate, plant, and multi-functional technical teams as necessary
· Develop or oversee the development of engineering deliverables for project definition, execution, and start-up (location and technology selection, installation details, installation and start-up sequencing and checklists)
· Participate in food safety audits
o Collaborate with the Senior Manager of Technical Food Safety to assist in audits of other sites
o Take responsibility for timely audit summary responses, verified countermeasure activities, and driving and tracking audit corrective actions for the home site
· Identify, develop, and execute improvement projects, including developing funding requests, managing capital and engineering execution through start-up, and providing clear communication on project status, outages, and concerns to upper management as the primary link between the project team and executives
· Interact with vendors, develop equipment specifications, perform equipment testing, and lead commissioning, qualification, and verification tasks as required
· Foster personal and professional development in oneself and others, including technicians, managers, and engineers
· Identify and address opportunities to improve food safety within the facilities, such as foreign material and microbiological controls and mitigations
· Collaborate and build relationships with plant, company, and corporate resources to implement new standards and practices
· Maintain adherence to food safety standards from a mechanical and structural perspective at the site
· Take ownership of a safety system at the site
· Take ownership of a Quality Key Element System
· Travel to other sites and vendors as needed, with an average travel rate of 10-15%, which may increase during peak periods
What we are looking for:
Minimum Requirements:
· Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
· At least 3 years of experience in project management
· Experience in the food manufacturing industry
Additional skills and experience that would be beneficial in this role:
· Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
· Experience in people management or leading teams
· Understanding, demonstrated utilization, or participation in Initiative Management (IM) Pillar tools
· Experience with daily management systems to ensure quality and/or food safety
