Civil Engineer

Location: Spring Grove, IL

Position Summary:

The role of the Civil Engineer involves the expertise and ability to plan, design, and oversee the development of building structures, foundations, and site civil requirements. This position necessitates effective project management of external and internal contractors to ensure cost-efficient and timely installations. The job location for this position is Spring Grove, IL, with support provided to two other nearby sites.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create functional layouts for buildings/plants and design strong foundations for specialized machinery.
  • Utilize SolidWorks and 2D CAD to lay out, design, and document building structures, plant/equipment layouts, and plant utilities.
  • Analyze projects to assess feasibility and develop budgets and return on investment projections.
  • Create detailed specifications for bid packages, obtain quotes, negotiate prices and delivery terms, review contracts, submit project authorizations, and award contracts to vendors for buildings, foundations, utilities, site civil work, and plant cranes.
  • Create and maintain visual schedules for building/foundation projects using MS Project.
  • Coordinate and direct subcontractors for plant building and office projects as the general contractor.
  • Supervise Project Crew personnel in the implementation and assembly of designs.
  • Ensure the quality and safety of external contractors' work in the installation of buildings, foundations, and utilities such as HVAC, Plumbing, and Railroad.
  • Take responsibility for modifying, redesigning, and repairing existing structures.
  • Possess a deep understanding of building structural design and designing foundations for heavy machinery.
  • Have knowledge of plant utilities, civil engineering, building codes, and environmental codes.
  • Hold a corporate position responsible for addressing the architectural/structural needs of all three plants, including two joint venture plants.
  • Design structures that meet or exceed relevant codes, conducting thorough analysis, validation, and due diligence to ensure the quality of design and the safety of personnel and plant.
  • Assist with mechanical designs using SolidWorks.
  • Have experience in rigging and be able to draft written engineered lift plans.

Qualifications:

  • Hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural/Structural Engineering.
  • Possess strong skills in project management, either through formal education or previous experience.
  • Have knowledge of crane code manufacturing (CMAA).
  • Be familiar with permitting processes, building codes, and standards.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in reading structural blueprints and generating 2D CAD drawings.
  • Have proficient skills in MS Office, particularly MS Project.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, along with strong organization and attention to detail.
