Director of Supply Chain Operations
About the Role:
We are seeking a talented professional to fill the position of Director of Supply Chain Operations in our Spring Grove, IL location. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the strategic planning and execution of procurement, acquisition, and distribution of raw materials and services. You will design systems to support multi-site operations and inventory levels, driving growth and competitive strategies. The successful candidate will lead improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and profitability of our supply chain, including contract negotiations, stocking strategies, and continuous improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement a supply chain model to optimize production capabilities and create value through efficient access to raw materials and services.
• Establish strategic partnerships with suppliers, distributors, and customers to drive operational improvements.
• Negotiate supplier agreements, monitor quality, and manage supplier performance.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inventory investments and operational efficiency.
• Monitor market trends and develop actionable plans based on industry knowledge.
• Manage supplier relationships, scrap material resale, and new supply sources development.
• Collaborate with internal teams to align delivery schedules and monitor supply chain performance metrics.
• Optimize inventory strategies and balance cash flow with inventory availability.
• Provide technical support and training to internal resources on supply chain best practices.
Requirements:
• BA/BS degree in Operations/Business/Supply Chain Management or a related field
• 7-10 years of experience in Purchasing & Sourcing within a manufacturing organization
• 2-4 years of recent experience in the Metals Industry
• Strong knowledge of steel making process, metallurgy, forging, and machining
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems, preferably JD Edwards
• Certifications such as ISM (C.P.M., CPSM) and/or APICS (CPIM, CIRM, CSCP) are a plus
• Demonstrated ability in project management and continuous improvement
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Proficiency in MS Office and ability to work in a heavy manufacturing environment
