Chief Surveyor
Location: Fargo, ND
This job is for surveying on highway/roadway construction projects. It involves operating surveying instruments and equipment and entering data into computer software:
Job Responsibilities
- Lead field survey crews in conducting plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects
- Perform all survey and layout activities as directed
- Review 3D modeling and grading tasks for quality assurance and quality control
- Participate in pre-survey planning meetings with the project team
- Assign and oversee the work of field survey crew members
- Instruct and train survey crew in survey and mapping methods, equipment usage, and field safety procedures
- Gather field survey data using traditional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods
- Prepare field notes and drawings
- Conduct field surveying for buildings, roadways, bridges, and flood control projects
- Perform complex surveying calculations using engineering calculator and laptop computer
- Create finished grade sheets, topographic maps, records of survey, corner records, and other survey reports
- Research existing record information and maintain field data records, survey project files, and indexing systems
Experience/Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of survey experience, including experience as a party chief
- Developing understanding of field instrumentation, GPS, and robotic total stations
- Strong teamwork and cooperation skills
- Experience in earthworks or civil construction
- Technical school diploma/certificate in a related program is a plus
- Valid Driver's License required
