We are in search of a tax professional to join our extensive tax team. The main responsibility of this role is to determine the correct treatment of income tax for both tangible and intangible property, primarily in regards to tax depreciation and deferred income tax purposes. This position is vital in an industry that is currently experiencing considerable growth and transition towards clean energy. The ideal candidate will need to apply and interpret complex technical tax laws within a capital-intensive business environment. They will also become highly proficient in a specialized tax-fixed asset software system that is specific to utilities, and be comfortable working with and analyzing large data sets. The company will provide training to develop the candidate's technical expertise in this specific area of corporate taxation.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and utilize specialized software applications to track tax depreciation and deferred income taxes. Extensive training will be provided to become an expert user of the software.
- Collaborate with other income tax functions to support the inclusion of fixed asset income tax data in income tax provisions, income tax returns, regulatory filings, budgets, and forecasts.
- Assist in responding to inquiries and requests from regulatory and governmental taxing authorities.
- Oversee and review the work of other team members.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, development, and evaluation of employees.
- Lead the functional team, including directing day-to-day activities and providing guidance and recommendations.
- Analyze key financial reporting metrics, including regulatory flow-through analysis and variance analysis, using analytical reports and processes.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting.
- Eight years of experience in corporate taxation, or six years for candidates with a CPA license.
- Knowledge of accounting and financial statements, as well as experience with accounting information systems.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the ability to manipulate data with some supervision and direction.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to streamline processes.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Preferences:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
- Experience in the utilities industry.
- Prior employment with a Big Four accounting firm.
