Summary

Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh (HARP) is seeking a dedicated and passionate shelter veterinarian to join our team. In this role, you will provide medical and surgical care to shelter animals as well as public clinic patients. We value the well-being and ethical treatment of animals, and we are looking for a candidate who shares our vision.

In addition to animal care, you will also have the opportunity to participate in various community programs such as Pet Retention, Pet Food Pantry, and Wildlife Center initiatives. We offer a modern and well-equipped facility, mentorship opportunities, and a supportive work environment.

HARP operates two large shelters, offering veterinary services to the public. We are committed to providing high-quality and affordable wellness care to animals in our community. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

·Provide medical care to owned animals and shelter animals

·Maintain knowledge of medical protocols and ensure compliance with standards and guidelines

·Assist in the development of veterinary care protocols and disease control measures

·Perform medical procedures, administer treatments, and prescribe medications

·Coordinate with local veterinarians and professionals to build positive relationships

·Maintain accurate medical records and drug use logs

·Provide mentorship to veterinary students and volunteers

·Maintain positive relationships with coworkers, clients, and stakeholders

Work Environment:

This position may involve interactions with aggressive animals, but the majority of the work will be performed in an office environment. The noise level is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:

To successfully perform the duties of this job, you must be able to bend, stand, stoop, walk, sit, talk, listen, hear, and use your hands. The ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds is also required.

Additional Information:

·Reliable transportation is required

·Travel between shelter locations is necessary

·Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

·Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine

·Current Veterinary License in Pennsylvania

·USDA APHIS Certification (or willingness to enroll)

·Valid driver’s license

·DEA license (or willingness to apply)

·Experience and/or interest in shelter medicine preferred
