Community Animal Health Specialist

Location: Pittsburgh, PA

Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh (HARP) is seeking a Community Animal Health Specialist to join our team in Pittsburgh, PA.

HARP is one of the largest animal welfare organizations in Pennsylvania, dedicated to the ethical treatment of animals within the community. As a Community Animal Health Specialist, you will provide high-quality medical and surgical care to shelter animals and public clinic patients. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to community programs such as the Pet Retention Program, Pet Food Pantry, Community and Working Cat Programs, Humane Health Coalition, and Street Medicine and Outreach. In addition, you will provide medical and surgical care to a variety of wildlife at HARP's Wildlife Center.

Qualified candidates must be a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and hold a current veterinary license to practice in the state of Pennsylvania. USDA APHIS certification and a valid driver's license are also required. Experience and/or interest in shelter medicine is preferred. Candidates should be able to manage both wellness and sick appointments.

This is a full-time position with a variable work schedule, including weekend rotation. Reliable transportation is a must as travel between HARP's shelters is required. The work environment is primarily office-based, however, there may be exposure to hazards associated with aggressive animals. The physical demands of the role include bending, standing, stooping, walking, sitting, and lifting/moving up to 50 pounds.
